Home Moving Checklist

Home Moving Checklist

The time has finally come. You’ve been approved for your new home and you just can’t wait to move in. You’ve called all of your friends and family to tell them of the good news. You’ve even cried tears of joy for your accomplishment. Then, you realize that you’re like most people. You have no idea of how you are going to get organized for the move. Well, if you are looking to make a smooth transition from your old home into your new home then it will probably be a good idea to have a Home Moving Checklist. This checklist will serve as the “blueprint” and the foundation for success in getting you moved worry free.

Why Do I Need A Moving Checklist?

Home moving requires a lot of detail and a checklist will help you stay organized, on task, and more efficient. This checklist serves as your plan as to how you are going to get from point A to point B. If you were traveling by car to an unknown location hopefully you’d bring along a map or GPS system to help you get there. Well, the same rule applies to moving. Your checklist is your travel guide and it will get you moved with as less mishaps as possible.

How Do I Start My Checklist?

Your first task is to look at the entire move and begin to break down what needs to be done in detail. Go to each room and take an inventory of the items that are in that space. Mark your boxes accordingly when it’s time to start packing. Next, you will determine the items that you don’t need and whether or not you plan to sell them or give them to charity. Finally, you should determine where you are going to keep all of your important papers and documents. It may be a good idea to keep them separate from other household items.

When Should I Write My Check List?

You should begin formulating your checklist as soon as you find out you’re moving. Break down the tasks that need to be done week-by-week up until the day of your move. Determine when you will change your address, transfer or change bank accounts, and contact moving companies.

Things To Remember

Plan to get a new driver’s license with your updated address and register to vote. Contact your utility company to transfer your service. Remember, your moving checklist is your blueprint for success in having a stress-free move.
