Weekend Trip Checklist

Have you ever felt frustrated by the fact that you forgot to pack an essential item even though you had your whole trip planned the night before? Well, I am sure all of us have. No matter how short these weekend vacations are or how seasoned you are as a traveler, there are just some things you don’t want to have to worry about along the way. But not to worry; here is a simple checklist for you to refer to as you prepare for your out-of-town weekend.

Must-Haves

There are a few things a tourist or vacationer must never, ever forget. Passports, keys, driver’s licenses, documentary proof for any hotel reservations or car rentals are some of the things you might want to take with you. And of course, you would be in so much trouble if you manage to forget your wallet and credit cards at home. Also, make sure not to overlook any medications which anyone in your family might need. Bring along your phone and camera chargers or even some extra batteries for both. And a first-aid kit should always leave the house with you.

“Mom, I can pick my own clothes!”

That’s not the problem here. Children will most often pick their favorite outfits when packing for a trip. That’s not a problem either, except they might not think of packing some other essentials. For example, your teenage daughter may pack every clothing accessory or jewelry she has but forget any undergarments or pajamas. Be sure to pack clothes for each day you spend, too.

Child Necessities

Children are a messy lot so make sure you are able to pack some extra clothes for them to change into. Babies and toddlers may need their bottles and lots of diapers. You might also want to bring a portable bed for the baby.

Toiletries

These are among the most forgotten items of people who go on a trip. Deodorants, toothbrushes or any other bathroom essentials are necessary unless you are sure that the hotel can provide all these for you (or that you are willing to buy them at your destination). Bring with you some lotion, sunscreen and even lip balm just in case you might need them. If you plan on going camping in forest areas, perhaps you should take some insect repellents with you as well.

The Weather Man

No matter your destination, you must be able to prepare yourself for any kind of weather. Be sure to check any of the weather reports for your destination so you can pack accordingly. Wouldn’t it be just a waste of space to pack thick jackets when there is no possibility of cold weather? Do we need hats to protect against sunburn? Is there a possibility for rain? Should I pack my swimsuit or would it be too cold for swimming? After checking the weather, you can quickly assess which kinds of clothing and items to take along with you.

For your amusement…

Long journeys, whether by plane, car or train, can immediately bore you or the children. In this case, it would be prudent to bring along some toys or games, snacks and drinks, favorite stuffed animals, and even pillows and blankets just in case. For car and train trips, you can devise a game which allows you and your children to enjoy the scenery as well.

Cherish the Moments – even after they are over

Surely, you don’t plan on leaving without your camera, do you? Be sure to take some backup batteries with you and extra memory cards or films for the camera. If you plan on bringing home some souvenirs, take an empty bag along with you. This way, there is no need to worry about space for souvenirs later on. On the other hand, you can take your address book with you and just ship some – if not all – of the souvenirs to their respective destinations.

There, you are all ready for your weekend trip. This checklist is just a general guide for a traveler. You can always cross out some unnecessary items or add a few more essentials later on.
